RE: Neoaxis game engine - asmanel - 2014-03-21 According to what I understood, the Irrlicht Engine uses for the maps the Quake formats. The maps of these formats are compiled map. Apparently, the Irrlicht Engine, like ioquake3 is as fluid as the Cube Engine with maps that can be as big and complex as the Cube 2 Engine ones. The only problem is the map creation/edition need hard to use external tools. RE: Neoaxis game engine - Victor - 2014-03-21 If we want want to make a game that is not fully open-source, what about CryEngine, which has Linux support in development? How about Cube 2 and Red Eclipse? RE: Neoaxis game engine - -{ET}-xdEpicZombie - 2014-03-21 Cryengine is the best engine we could ever get.Okay theres UDK too but I trust CryEngine more for some reason.Yes I know,it requires a good computer and stuff but how many of us really have 10 years old computers. In a vote,Id give mine for CryEngine! RE: Neoaxis game engine - rXn - 2014-03-22 I think the problem with CryEngine is that it needs DirectX11 by hardware, doesnt it? Anyway, imo Irrlicht is better than Cube2 because of: 1. Dynamic lights/shadows, http://sourceforge.net/apps/gallery/irrlicht/index.php?g2_itemId=1378 2. Nice texture stuff, look here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/gallery/irrlicht/index.php?g2_itemId=1520 3. All the effects are "out of the box", fe particle system (smoke grenades!) or water 4. Supports animated objects and nearly all the formats around http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/features/#supportedformats including md3/2, so many models could be reused On the other hand maps have to be created with an exern tool, like irrEdit ( http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/tools/ ) or one of the numerous quake map editors They also have both opengl(sdl, I think) and directx support, so people with faster pcs might use the improvement tool someone mentioned here in the forum some time ago. Dont get me wrong, Cube2 is great, too ![]() RE: Neoaxis game engine - {KE}bluwarguy - 2014-03-22 Speaking of new engines and such, is Real Eclipse ever going to happen? fox engine would be beast to use... but i dont think they released any sdk yet (if they ever will) RE: Neoaxis game engine - -{ET}-xdEpicZombie - 2014-03-22 Fox engine is next generation shit.Thats too hardcore.Irrlicht is pretty good since it is opensource and the graphics aren't too bad.Still,CryEngine is the best!! RE: Neoaxis game engine - {KE}bluwarguy - 2014-03-22 what about syntensity? ![]() it was built on the cube 2 engine i believe RE: Neoaxis game engine - -{ET}-xdEpicZombie - 2014-03-22 I downloaded Irrlicht and ran the demo, looks so bad, worst than original ac.Basically like quake 2.IDK guys,I guess Cryengine should be used! As much as I hate to mention it,Unity 4 is a pretty good engine and we could get it free in the beginning(pirating) ![]() This is a screenshot of a game called "No Heroes".It's not out yet and being made by one man team.Check out the latest update on Youtube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k1yL-QtfvE&list=UU68cRDwrPq3zjoScKj8Dy4A Also this browser based multiplayer fps called Contract Wars is made with Unity engine. ![]() RE: Neoaxis game engine - rXn - 2014-03-22 I myself like Irrlicht, did you notie most effects (postprocessing etc) are not included in the demos? Anyway, try to run QuakeMapViewer with settings to "high". I just looked at some games made with this engine and someof them look much better than the tech demo. Anyway, that engine based on Cube2 sounds great. Remember, there is that Tesseract engine with dynamic lighting, too. Btw: Is Cube2 able to do particles? After June Ill have quite much free time and Id really like to do RealEclipse "in real" ![]() Somehow I ran into this engine: http://torque3d.org/ RE: Neoaxis game engine - -{ET}-xdEpicZombie - 2014-03-22 Forget torque 3D.I had it a couple of months ago.It has no remarkable graphics or physics but for some reason I played with 35-45 fps only.Damn i have over 800 fps with Irrlicht, thats not normal that some random shitty engine needs so much power. |
