the red dot sight problem

A knife crosshair would be too easy. I dunno, but you really cant ADS while throwing something. Try it in real life. xD

Project Reality, a mod for BF2, had this type of system when you used ADS. When you ADS on a weapon with a RDS, like an EOTech, a EOTech model would be in the middle of your screen. One thing that was annoying though was that the EOTech reticle didn't sway with your weapon, so it might make shooting while moving difficult. I dunno, that's one of the cons I experienced with this type of system.
