Help for beginner 3d modelers
I wrote this thread to help people, who wish to make mods and offical models for ACR.Im not a pro or anything, but Im still teaching what I know and try to help.
First of all. When I started making models there was this problem with good image refernces.I tried to search but I didnt find anything.Google didnt help at all.But then this guy(a_slow_old_man) from AC forum posted a link with tons of .zip files that contain image files of many various guns.Click here. This heleped me alot and I hope it helps you too:-)
Secondly the modeling itself.Since ACR is very simple game and uses pretty lowpoly models, it isnt worth to make weapon models that are over 10 000 polygons. For low poly modeling there are tons of free tutorials online with images that show what to do in what order.Again, when I started and read the tutorials I tried to use some other techniques to model something. This is very wrong and I hope You dont to the same mistake. If You are learning from the tutorial,do exactly as it is show there.Do not try to skip anything.Just go along how it is shown in the tutorial.I suggest to make the same model that is in the tutorial so You could compare the final results. Here Google is Your best friend for finding tutorials.
Thirdly the uvmapping and texturing. If You are using 3ds max or blender,You can use their uvmapping plugins to get a nice uvmap. If You are using milkshape, mistif modeler or any other various low poly modeling programs I suggest you to use Uvmapping programs such as LithUnWrap,Ultimate Unwrap or UVMapper Professional.Once You´ve got a nice UV map that is pretty hard,You gotta texture it.Texturing is one of the few things I do best.If I have a nice UV map texturing is really easy.If You are a begginer I suggest You to sue older versions of Photoshop or Artweaver. If You have already advanced in texturing You can use new versions of photoshop or Gimp.
Thank You for reading and have a nice models :-)
Also comment and if there is any questions please PM
