Personally, for realism's sake, I'd say give it select fire. Just give it a higher recoil penalty when used in automatic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_KO_Factor Using the TKOF chart from wikipedia, we can see that the .308 Winchester has a TKOF of 19.6, while the 7.62x39mm Russian has a TKOF of 13.3 Both rifles have recoil forces that go over your shoulder, so recoil is pretty bad for both rifles. DSO
