RE: Got a new desktop
Nice!
I read that Intel 4th gen CPUs aren't really an improvement from 3rd gen if you're on desktop, and you even have to have a different motherboard. What influenced you to get 4th gen besides having the best of the best? DSO

RE: Got a new desktop
Intel might continue to use the socket for future processors so I wanted to have a slightly more future proofed. It is also a 8-10% improvement for not that much more money.

Somewhere I've heard some rumour about hardware backdoors and strange microcode in Intel ©PUs...?

RE: Got a new desktop
There is no proof of it that I know of. All I know is that they tend to way outperform the competition at the high end and faster processor can really speed up code compilation which can take up a lot of time.

Code compilation doesn't take that much time though.

RE: Got a new desktop
It can for some things and I run a gentoo-like distro so I compile a large number of things.
