Maybe its because all these engines are very modular and have effects implemented by plugins. I tried an Irrlicht based game this evening and it had about 60fps compared to 750fps for the tech demo in fullscreen with wine/Dx9.1.

Well that might be the problem.My suggestion is that we put all the good engines to a list and make a vote!Ima do it right now!

It is fully free and open source.
ZGameEditor uses a C-style scripting language.
