Yes Ogre is a rendering engine. Also we use Ogre3D create our own engine and use PhysX as our physics. PhysX is great.

Writing our own engine is a lot of work I'm not sure we want to do. It would probably be easier to just use an existing one. PhysX is great, but we can't use it if it isn't cross-platform(I work on linux most of the time)

EDIT: with some quick googling I see that it works on linux, but isn't GPU accelerated(also what about all the people without Nvidia cards, I personally have 7970/280x crossfire)

Just a question, but isn't PhysX really demanding on computers? I remember playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and it lagged on pretty much every computer I played on, laptop or gaming rig. It used Nvidia/Aegia PhysX

DeltaStrikeOp if you have a decent Nvidia card it shouldn't lag much(it is accelerated by the graphics card), but if you use anything else it can lag or just not work(I'm pretty sure it's nonfunctional without a nvidia card).

I think Cube2/Red Eclipse would be the best codebase as it already has a working game that just has to be modified. Anyway, Cube2 separates between game and engine in source, so porting ACR to RE would also create some kind of more or less "engine-independent" version.

The C Programming Language: combines the flexibility of assembly language with the power of assembly language.

Well, I'm busy with university right now, but I think I should try to finish off ACR first, probably during the winter break.

Then perhaps I might start a new project similar to ACR, but on Tesseract or Red Eclipse.
