Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
Instead of making new content we should focus on making our game 100% free from copyright violation...

In order for places like Steam and Desura to take us seriously, we should make all external content copyright unambiguous. Once this game hits Steam or Desura, our game will become a lot more popular, and also discourage others from copying our content and posting it there. Just look at the short lived popularity that YourFunWorld got...

It seems like most of the problems with licensing are with the textures, sounds, and maps....

All of the content that does not have a license or is not specifically approved to be in there by the creator should be replaced...

Maps can be replaced, PPShomie already made tons of new maps, and the old maps suck anyway (I never see anybody use the old maps except for Douze).

We really need different player models, I think somebody made different ones, but I think they were modifications to the same player model...

I don't know about the others, but if it comes down to it, I would prefer if some things were removed and be 100% license unambiguous than have some extra maps and sounds but not be able to be taken seriously by gaming distribution sites...

Also, I hate that AC can play the copyright card on our a**....

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
I would love to see this if we can get that together. If not for Steam and Desura just so that we can say that we are a completely free as in speech program.

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
Since we have only 3 modelers in this forum(Me,{ak}bluwarguy and Padge1)and only 1 of them is active({ak}bluwarguy),I dont belive that there are any playermodels coming soon.

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
We already have public-domain player skins and OK player models.

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
We should make a list of things that need to be replaced so that the modelers know what our requests are.

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
There already is that list in "packages/Readme.txt" in every release since 2.3 (or somewhere around there).

The SVN version may be found here: https://assaultcubes.svn.codeplex.com/sv...Readme.txt

I decided to edit the parts that need updating out anyways. These are the things that must be replaced for us to be rid of the copyright problems.

Luckily there is only 1 audio file and I believe that is music which we could probably just remove. For the rest of it we should all get working to see what we can get done. I'd like to have the whole list taken care of by 2.6.0. If you make something be sure to give it a license. CC0 and most of the CC BY* should work fine. I prefer CC BY-SA-NC myself.
I'll delete things from the list as they are posted. I'll keep a copy of each so we know what we have done.

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
We've managed to dodge many copyright issues by redistributing the entire unmodified AC packages folder with our stuff in a mod folder.

This means that we have 4 issues left:
audio/misc: firstblood.ogg and headshot.ogg are probably from probably OpenWarfare2 but need identification
audio/weapon: quite a few of weapon sounds have no copyright status
models/weapon: quite a few weapon models are unknown
models/weapons: assault2 and pistol have unknown textures

Best regards,
Victor

RE: Get rid of copyright ambiguity?
I could find and make a sound pack for ACR,i was thinking about it for some time ago,to change all the sounds.Unfortunately,as I am very busy, project was stopped.

I will look into it when I have finished the Vector!
